FAMILY
Shweta was born into a family of musicians and music lovers. Shweta's mom Sujatha Mohan is an accomplished and award winning playback singer who has lent her voice to over 4000 songs in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi.
Her dad Dr. V KrishnaMohan is a pediatrician by profession but passionate about music and manages to sing really good for a doctor!
Being the daughter of a popular playback singer did not push Shweta into taking up to singing. Infact seeing her mother staying away from icecreams and outings used to make her wonder if taking up music would mean giving up on good things in life! Soon enough she realised the power of music and how it is beyond all possible good things that life can offer. Shweta started her training in Carnatic music at the age of 9 from Ramamoorthy Rao Sir. Participating in cultural events and competitions gradually drew her closer to music. She considers herself very fortunate to have done her first couple of recordings as a child artiste with none other than the Mozart of Madras, AR Rahman, for the chorus of the songs 'Kuchi kuchi rakkamma' (Bombay) and 'Accham accham illai' (Indira). Academically a sound student, Shweta's decision to choose a life in music over a corporate career came to her only after her graduation. Shweta is being trained in Carnatic classical vocal currently under Smt. Binni Krishnakumar (noted carnatic and playback singer), Western vocal and piano under Mr. Augustine Paul and Hindustani vocal under Sri. Fayaz Khan. Even in a busy day swamped with recordings, studio hopping and classes she does make sure to practice regularly.
Shweta married into a family of music lovers. Her husband Ashwin Shashi, President and COO of KGM Group of Companies is also passionate about music and has been a great support in her musical endeavours. She strongly believes that family support can do wonders. Just like her dad to her mom, Shweta has found the same support in Ashwin and her new family. Her versatility in music comes from different influences around her – bhajans and old Tamil songs from her mother, old Hindi songs from her father, Pop and blues from her husband and rock from her friends.
With over 200 songs under her belt she believes there is a long way to go and wishes to sing in many different genres and languages.
